Discover St Agnes

We are lucky enough to live in a spectacular environment, and we all want to keep it that way. From our houses, to our beaches and beyond, there is a lot we can do to protect and look after the place we live.

Recycling:

Enter your postcode into the Cornwall County Council’s website to find out about collection days and times in your street.

In addition, recycling bins are available in the St. Agnes Car Park (next to the library) and Porthtowan Car Park.

Energy Saving Advice:

From the beginning of June, 2012, St. Agnes residents will be able to borrow a domestic energy monitor from St. Agnes Library to try at home for three weeks. All four monitors were donated by Natural Generation Ltd., a local company specialising in solar and wind energy installations. Most people who fit one begin to notice how much electrical energy they could save, and begin to consume electrical power less wastefully.

The Energy Saving Trust is a good place to start if you are interested in learning about how to save energy in your home or business.

If you are interested in getting more involved, Transitions St Agnes are a brilliant local group working to help develop a more sustainable and self sufficient community.

Beach Cleaning:

We are lucky enough to enjoy some of the finest and most unspoilt coastline in the country, so please make sure you always leave the beach as you’d hope to find it and take all rubbish (especially disposable barbecues) home with you.
Organisations like Surfers Against Sewage, the National Trust and the St. Agnes Marine Conservation Group hold regular beach-clean events; details of these will be posted in the What’s ON calendar when announced.

Protecting Wildlife:

The St. Agnes Marine Conservation Group is a local group dedicated to learning about and looking after our stunning natural environment. They aim to:

• protect and conserve the marine environment
• raise awareness and increase understanding of the marine environment
• encourage education and research within the marine environment

To find out more about them and the events they run throughout the year, visit their website.

All strandings of dolphins, turtles, seals and basking sharks require urgent attention, whether dead or alive. Please call the appropriate number immediately so that trained volunteers can attend quickly to attempt a rescue of live casualties, or to fully record dead ones before the tide removes them.
